My name is Ruben Lagattolla, I am a Documentary Film Maker.
I produce documentaries and in particular I am interested in sociology, anthropology and linguistics.
I started working as a cameraman in 2007 in the news environment among national broadcasters such as SKY and RAI in Rome, Italy, mainly because I liked that dynamic lifestyle.
Then with the experience I moved to documentary films production, which have always been my passion. I like to look outside the box.
I had the chance to move my first steps in 2009 in Cote d’Ivoire, Togo and Burkina Faso, documenting Christian missions in these countries. From 2010 to 2012 I collaborated as co-producer and director of photography with the production company Telemaco, mainly producing international investigation documentaries.
In 2011 I had my first and fatal encounter with EPOS filming for the documentary Haifa’s Answer directed by Prof. Emanuela C. Del Re. Since then I started working more and more in the Middle East, traveling and filming Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Iraq and finally Syria.
The experience in Syria is part of a path I started with My Future project by Epos agency, filming and interviewing many refugees who fled to Iraq. In these years, under the direction of prof. Del Re, I had the chance to collect so many personal stories that I could not anymore stand the curiosity to visit that country. I don’t dare to define myself a war reporter, I’d rather prefer to collect unique stories that I want to report to give a positive message to my western society and culture.
It took a while to understand what I do… photography, filming, writing. But what I conclude at the end of my day is that I tell stories. The stories of the people. Stories through photographs and films.
